• 4 Reasons Why I Love Daycare

Why I chose to put my son in daycare:

    1. Stability – I know that no matter what, Monday to Friday, I have child care. The only thing that could potentially stand in the way is the little guy being sick. I don’t have to worry about someone else’s schedule. I don’t have to worry about my babysitter taking a vacation or having something come up. I’m not scrambling around at the last minute trying to find someone to keep him. Things happen and I understand that, but it’s a relief to me to know that daycare is always there when I need them.

    2. Structure – Every day, I get a daily sheet for him – meals, naps, etc. I know that, more often than not, his schedule is very similar from day to day. I also periodically update his schedule to reflect changes in what he can/can’t eat or what times and for how long he should be napping. I know, without a doubt, that if something doesn’t seem quite right or if they have any questions or concerns, they’ll get in touch with me immediately.

    3. Socialization – Sometimes, when I pick him up, all of the little ones are on the floor together. Sometimes, when I drop him off, the older kids run over and say hi to him. When it’s warm, all of the kids go outside together. If it’s not, they find activities to do inside. Around Christmas, I found his “mistletoes” in his bag – little green footprints with a red bow. I’m willing to bet that he loved that. I mean, what little one wouldn’t love stomping around in paint?

    4. Stimulation – Periodically, I get a questionnaire to fill out regarding his development and we work together to make sure that he’s getting what he needs – right now, that means lots of tummy time as he starts learning to crawl. Every month, I get a Scholastic order form and we pick out books to read. They make a point of actively engaging with the kids – I regularly find them singing and reading to them.

When it comes down to it, everyone has to make their own choice. You weigh the pros and cons, consider what’s important to you, and make the best decision you can make. I’m not saying I couldn’t have gotten some or all of these things had I chosen a different child care option – I know I could’ve, but as you can probably tell, I love the daycare center I chose. If you can find an arrangement that you’re happy with, it makes it so much easier to go to work. I know that even though I can’t be with him, I can count on the girls sending me pictures and him being happy when I drop him off and pick him up. After all, that’s what matters, right?
