• 5 Ideas For A Date Night In

How do we have date night when getting out of the house isn’t a possibility? We have some favorite date night in activities. After our toddler has finally gone to bed, here’s what we like to do to carve out a little quality time together:

    1.  Movies on the Couch

Going to the theater might not be a possibility but there are lots of other options. We DVR movies, use Red box, Netflix, and break out our favorite old DVDs. It has to be a movie we both agree on. I’ll admit, sometimes that’s really tough! Our favorite couple’s movie is When Harry Met Sally so I strongly recommend that one.  After a busy Monday at work, snuggling up on the couch with my husband and some buttery popcorn is so relaxing!

    1.  Board & Card Games

This has been a staple for us from the beginning. We used to do this a lot as poor college students. We have long standing rivalries when it comes to games like Racko and Up Words. I can proudly claim my husband has never beaten me at a word game, but he always wins at Rummy. Sometimes it’s fun to make a bet on the game. Our bets usually involve household chores or changing diapers, but you can get creative with that one.

    1.  Sundaes

This one isn’t really helping me lose weight for bikini season, but it’s still a favorite. On the way home, someone stops at the grocery store and picks up ingredients for sundaes. There are only two requirements in our house: ice cream and sprinkles. My husband is a sprinkle connoisseur!  No matter what you like on your sundae, sharing a giant sundae with your sweetie while talking about anything except work and kids is lots of fun!

    1.  Back Scratch & Massage

After chasing our toddler around, and up and down… we are usually pretty sore. One thing that always helps me relax is a back rub from my husband. This is a give and take thing, so after he’s done rubbing my back, I do his. Setting a timer to make sure you both get the same amount of time can be helpful, if you’re keeping score. Otherwise, just grab your favorite scented lotion and relax!

    1.  20 Questions

At first, this one didn’t sound fun at all, but it has become a favorite. We lie in bed and ask questions. They can’t be serious questions though, that’s the rule. Usually they end up being things like “Why won’t you let me pluck that super long eyebrow hair?” or “How come we can’t have cheeseburgers twice a week?” We usually get off on some tangent and don’t finish asking 20 questions.  By the end, we are usually laughing.

It makes us feel closer, and that’s the best reason to have a date night. Maintaining our relationship is something we try to do daily, whether we have a babysitter or not. I hope these date night in ideas can help you and your hubby do just that!
