• Girls vs. Boys

Testosterone. In addition to this hormone found in boys, boys and girls are hard-wired differently.  Girls are more empathetic while boys tend to categorize situations and predict outcomes.  Some boys tend to be more aggressive due to testosterone, much like the stereotypical picture of a “bully”.

Emotions.  While some boys are highly sensitive, girls overall tend to be more emotional, while boys are more “go-with-the-flow” kind of people.  Girls can have positive opinions about everything from what they wear to what they eat, while boys see meal time as an interruption to their day.

Bullying.  Speaking of bullying, boys tend to bully physically (hitting, intimidation) while girls attack emotionally.  Girls can be best friends one day and bitter enemies the next.  And girls are very good about using what they've learned from others against that person.

Communication.  In this area, girls typically develop verbal skills at an earlier age.  Boys are very to-the-point and will tell you what they mean.  Girls may hide their true intent in their words, and sometimes require a translator to figure out their point.  I've often thought about hiring one to decipher what the hell my daughter is talking about.  And I don't mean slang.

Play.  With boys, everything may be open game.  Using countertops or drawers as trampolines, constantly roughhousing, using furniture as a jungle gym.  They hardly sit still long enough to tell them to stop.  Girls may be found quietly playing with their dolls in their rooms.

None of these are the norm for every child or every gender. This experience in dealing with boys has opened my eyes not only to the confusing differences, but the delightful ones.
