    1. Make snow cream

This is ice cream made from snow and it’s delicious! It can only be made properly with fresh snow. We set a bowl out while the snow is still falling. Usually, on top of the car is a great spot to collect lots of snow. When the bucket is full bring it in and mix with a little milk until it’s the right consistency. Then add 1 tsp vanilla for flavoring. My son likes his with lots of rainbow sprinkles! It’s the first thing I think of when they start calling for snow. I even have a special plastic bucket just for the occasion.

    2. Make snow angels

Despite my distaste for lying down in the snow, which inevitably leaves me wet and cold; I love making snow angels! I never get to capture those pristine pictures of my snowy white yard you see all over Instagram, because my yard is covered in snow angels. We have so much fun pushing each other backward into the snow and making snow angels together. My son likes to give them all different names as he walks around the yard admiring them. When the snow melts, I told him, the angels go back to Heaven.

    3. Build a snowman

We don’t get much snow, but we insist on attempting to make a snow man every year. Whether big or small, composed of soft white snow or mostly ice… they are great fun to build! My little boy likes helping me choose sticks for the arms and a hat for the snowman’s head. One year, we couldn’t find anything for the mouth, so I grabbed the ketchup from the fridge and we used that. We laugh at the pictures of that silly snowman! My husband calls him “the Joker Snowman,” because he looked like Batman’s Joker. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s a great memory!

    4. Have a snowball fight

My husband and I started this tradition in high school. I was never a fan of snowball fights before that. I always got mad at my brothers for throwing snow at me. When my husband did it, I didn’t want him to think I was whining, so I threw one back. We had a great time ducking behind cars, trees, and whatever else was in the yard to have amazing snowball fights. This year we have a trampoline in the back yard. I can’t wait to see what effect that will have on the annual snowball fight! I’ll let you know how it goes.

    5. Go sledding

We can’t do this one as often in the South. We rarely have enough snow. When we do, sledding is so much fun! We have tons of hills in our town that are perfect for it. There is a big hill in our front yard. Last year, our son spent the better part of the day climbing up the hill with the sled dragging behind and sliding down with a big grin. He loved it! If we’re going to get snow, I hope it’s enough to break out the sleds again. It’s the best!

What sort of snow day traditions do you have with your kiddos?
