• 9 Reasons Why Women Tune Into Football With Their Man

The NFL has begun, somewhat, to cater to this previously untapped segment – players wearing pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, more flattering apparel – and advertisers are taking notice. The reasons why they tune in are as varied as the women themselves. Here are some of the more common ones:
    1. They play/played sports themselves. Women who are athletes themselves watch it for the pure athleticism. They can relate to how intensely the players train and the emotions experienced on the field.
    2. She became involved in fantasy football. What could make watching a sport more exciting than the chance to earn a little money on the side? Especially when your fantasy team does better than your significant others?

    3. One of the guys. Her best friends are guys, or she grew up with all brothers, or both. She can hang with the best of them and school them on whether a flag was thrown for off-sides or a false start.

    4. Roots for her Alma Mater. She became addicted during her collegiate years and cannot imagine life without her Buckeyes, Ducks or Razorbacks.

    5. Not a Football Widow. If she wants to hang with her man on football day, well then she better enjoy/learn/watch the game. The added bonus – it gives her man to show off his own knowledge.

    6. Saturdays/Sundays are couple time. You know you will have a majority of either day or both of uninterrupted time. And it brings a couple closer together, spending all this quality time together.

    7. Excuse to drink. What goes better with football than beer? And nachos.

    8. Party Time! Super Bowl Sunday and playoff games are great times to show off hosting skills. And drink beer. And eat nachos.

    9. Pride. Either pride for her winning team, or pride from her man because she can not only hang on football days, but can debate calls. Sometimes loudly, but all in good fun.
I watched more football this past season than I have in years. Growing up, if you didn’t watch football, you didn’t watch TV on Sundays (back in the stone ages when there were only 3 channels). I understand the game, and I would rather watch with my boyfriend than spend time apart. Now if they could just do something about the annoying female commentators………
