Top 10 Sites For Kids’ Fun And Simple Road Trip Activities

In just over a week, my husband, two children (aged 5 and 2), and I are heading south for a two-day drive to my parents’ house. I know what you’re exclaiming with eyebrows raised, “Really? A two-day drive? With two kids? Are you crazy!?” I think the answer to all of your questions is “yes,” especially to the last one. Or if I’m not crazy now, I may be by the end of this thing.
As such, I have embarked on a mad hunt for activities for two young children to do in the car for 20 hours. After many hours of research, I have returned from this quest with links to sites that hold amazing ideas to occupy your youngsters while on the road, in the air, or just bored out of their gourds.

    Okay, here goes!
    1. SixSistetsStuff.com
WOW! 50 great road trip ideas, including links to printables and to directions on how to make items. Definitely a great resource! (BTW, I also linked to them for slow cooker recipe ideas. A very helpful site!)

    2. TestyYetTrying
Full of easy activities you can make for your kids. I originally found this site when looking for activities for my two-year-old to do while teaching her sister kindergarten. Some are really easy and easily reproducible. Oh, yeah!

    3. FrugalFamilyTimes.com
One reader commented: “Every parent about to embark on a road trip should read this!!” That seems like a pretty good recommendation to me!

    4. BabyCenter.com
A great list of ideas, some seen on other sites, some new. One of my favorite activities actually came out of a reader’s comment. She laminated blown-up pictures of family members’ faces to draw on with dry-erase markers. What a fun idea!

    5. KelleHampton.com
This mom details what she brought for her family’s road trip, including detailed photos and links. She has some super creative ideas. Check out her family story-telling magnets and her gas pump tags – ADORABLE!

    6. PBS.org
Lots of fun interactive games to play with your kids. (Not electronically interactive. I mean, like, you actually interact with your kids. )

    7. Adventure.HowStuffWorks.com
Let’s be honest, they had me at “Noise Free”! Fun, do-it-yourself activity ideas that are easy and cheap. Oh, yeah! Now, you’re speaking my language!

    8. Parenting.com
Ideas that make you look forward to your road trip. I especially like the “invite them to document the journey” idea.

    9. PositivelySplendid.com
20 printables for road trip fun!

    10. TheMeasuredMom.com
Good ideas for kids 2-8. This mom includes links to anything printable and directions for how she created things. And like me, she’s a non-sewing, not-so-crafty lady. So her ideas are easy to make.

What are your favorite tips? Do you have any ideas for us? I’ll take all the help I can get!
